I wonder if Bill Wellman has the class of 48 truely identified ? I watched the class that Jack Taylor , Bill Frasher , Bunk Marcum finish up in . I believe they finished up in 43 , Jack was in the Army and Bill F was in the Navy , Bunk was not serving . I will do some more homework . Fred
Richard , I was wrong my Class Dates : Jack Taylor , Bill Frasher and Bunk entered FGHS in 1940 and finished up in 1944 . Our Class entered fghs in 1943 and graduated in 1947 ,. I do remember Jack , Bill , Bunk and Maryanne Wellman in their last year . Regards FLR , 25 Mar 10
You are correct, Fred,
Pete Foster was in the picture and I recall he was behind our class at FGHS. I recognized a couple of others but most I could not recall their names. I grew up on the next farm from Bunk Marcum. Snow flurries forecast for tonight.
Richard
Bill I do remember the performance of Myers there at the High School . It was the first time I had ever seen some one as handicaped as him accomplish as much as he did What really impressed me was his ability to drive away in his car with his wife in the suicide seat .
Yes and the Spy story that was told ; but I never heard of any results . In those days , of war time fears , any thing , rumor ornot , would capture attention . But who knows the Truth ? Tally Ho : Fred
Hey Bill , That photo is definitly of the class of 48 . Look and you will find Patty Frasher , Val Roberts , Mrs Ingraham , Peggy Grace and Long John Artrip along wit h Timber .
I have a few momentoes here somewhwhere and will share them with any one . As Christine York said , It is well and fghs will always be HOME to me .
Regards : Fred
Hey Fred,if you have any pictures you would like on the site, send them to me by email and it will happen. Always looking for stuff that would be of interest to others. I was at “the free nation” this week. Someone needs to open some businesses there. Bring back Tom Ball’s store maybe. Be well.
Richard
Fred, now that I see your comment about Myers driving off with his wife in the suicide seat, I do recall hearing about it but did not see it. That was truly an amazing ‘feat’ during that time. BMW
On the class photo of Grad Class 48, I should have specified that they entered as freshmen in the fall of 44, graduating in 48. As to the class make-up of class of, I obtained the names of the graduates from the class picture hanging in the hall downstairs. some of the other class pictures that I photographed did not come out, not in focus, etc. I did the same for class of 59 and all the names were legible except for a girl named Anna Mae but her family name was not in frame. If anyone reading this should know the lady, please reply so I can update my record. I just noticed that there was a Bill Wellman who graduated in class of 43. I guess I didn’t know of him. Bill Wellman
Bill , I recall the Bill Wellman you mentioned , he was a giant of a Ladd and played a real tough game of Football . He was a team mate of Buck Justice and filled in at the Tackle position . He lived up on the Left Fork of Mill Creek and rode the school bus . Earned a Scholar ship to WVU on Football.
, but got his leg torn up early on and was dropped . I believe he went into the Navy as I seem to recall seeing him in his uniform , I could be wrong . However he was a hugh person who matched ” Bead Wellman ‘

I sort of remember that Bill Wellman. At least I vaguely remember him being home on leave from the Navy. I don’t remember him as being a real large person. Maybe someone has a class picture from that era and would lend it to us to get on the web site. We would return it immediately after scanning or they could put it in a jpeg and email it. Anyone looking at these comments, we desperately need pictures and stories to put on the site. Fred, great idea about a white water trip. Only problem would be that the water around there is pretty black.
28 Mar 10 ; Hey , the Tom ball Store , Cash & Carry , is a feasible idea; but a draw back is that having lunch in a grocery store is not too kosher by the younngersters of today . I agree the town needs a shot in the arm though.
I wonder if the feds would agree to financing an Economic Study that would define some options ? What about a Bicycle Shop and maybe a White Water float endeavor. O well just kidding , However some construction is needed .
Just give me some time to get this printer working and I will try and get some documents to you . Yes , Aim high , work Hard , Do Well ; Fred
Richard , the Bill Wellman I knew of had a sister in our class , Fern Wellman ; I believe. flr
Richard , I do not believe Theron was his Father , I remember Theronalways got him confused with Luther Spears son ; he lived on Mill Creek. They were both Tall , thin and wore overhalls . flr
Jetterman , I knew you knew who it was but I wanted everyone else to share in the wealth . Mack and Willis both served in the Navy and mack did some 20 plus years . Willis became a Telegefer on the C& O Railroad
both have passed away. Yes Bill Willis lived with his Grandparentts across from the Honky Tonk . His Grandfather was a Baseball fan and went to every game .
