Today, June 14, 2010 is flag day. This is the day that the Continental Congress of 1777 adopted the stars and stripes as the official flag of our young nation. President Woodrow Wilson in 1916 proclaimed this date as Flag Day. In 1949 an Act of Congress created National Flag Day with the date being June 14 each year.
I haven’t seen a lot of press mention of this event in my area. It is to bad that in this time of national and international problems that more recognition of this over two centuries old symbol of freedom is not being given.
There are of course several rules and guidelines for flying and exhibiting the American Flag. These can all be found on-line or at other sources and should be adhered to if the flag is to flown or displayed. This is the day to “SHOW YOUR COLORS” proudly.
There has been little publicity about today being Flag Day here in this area. But we do have flags along the major streets here in our city. I just hopw it is more prevelent in private property across the Nation. My flag went up yesterday and will not be lowered until sundown today.
